Eevee, when exposed to certain attacks or environments, can evolve those powers and transform into a much more powerful opponent. Let's get our pencils and learn how to draw Eevee.
Step 01: As any of our returning Mangakas will already know, the blue lines you see in this tutorial are all construction lines and we will be erasing them later on so it's important not to press too hard on your pencil when you draw your construction lines. The final, permanent lines you'll see at the end of our tutorial in black. Got your pencils ready? Great, let's start with our head shape, eye and center lines to help us locate her features. We're going to be drawing the whole Eevee figure so we need to leave enough room for her body and legs. So, we'll begin by drawing a shovel like shape in the center left of our paper a little higher than center. Also, notice that the shovel shape is titled slightly to the right. The center line cuts the shovel shape in half and extends past the eye line. The eye line closes the shovel shape at the bottom.
Step 02: Continuing with our construction lines, let's round out the bottom of Eevee's face with a curved line that passes through the bottom of the center line. After we've got that we'll add two very large lines to the top of Eevee's head as construction lines for her enormous bunny ears. The ear line on the left will be more vertical while the ear line on the right will be at more of an angle.
Step 03: We've got a pretty straightforward step here. We just have to draw a squashed circle for the body shape. The body circle should stop at about the eye line on the right.
Step 04: Eevee has to be able to get around, so in this step we'll work on her legs and tail. Because of the way Eevee is facing the legs that are closest to us will appear larger while those furthest will not only look smaller but we should draw them smaller (our size 3d principle). Let's begin by drawing her front legs. We'll draw two long 'u' shapes for her front legs with the second, back leg smaller than the other. Her rear legs are made by drawing two 'u' shapes one on top of the other with the upper 'u' overlapping the body circle. Notice that the rear back leg is mostly hidden, so we don't need full 'u's for that leg.
Step 05: Great work so far everyone. Here, we'll start by drawing Eevee's eyes. Let's draw two vertical ellipses touching the eye line on the bottom for her eyes. Then, we'll draw a small upside down triangle for her nose, and a squiggle below the eye line for her mouth. Next, we'll finish off the lines for her ears. In the end, they should like thin leaves. Notice that the lines for the ear on the right overlap the head circle whereas those for the ear on the left stop at the head shape. Move down for just a moment and we'll add small circles to the bottom of her legs for her feet. Notice that we only draw 3 circles for 3 of her legs. Lastly, we should polish off the tail making it look like a much larger, fuller leaf like shape. Got it? Great, let's move on.
Step 06: Eevee has a large mane around her neck and a puffy chest. So in this step , we'll work on the outlines for her fur. Let's start by extending the center line down through her body. Then, we'll draw two curving lines that connect at a point at the bottom of the center line. Once we have an upside down leaf shape, we'll two curving lines connecting the head to this new shape. Notice that the line on the left starts at the eye line but the line on the right starts above the eye line.
Step 07: We'll begin this step by working on the eyes. Eevee might look a bit like an alien in this step but that's what we're going for. Let's start by drawing a vertical ellipse in the center of both eyes and adding a smaller circle above each ellipse. The circle will be an unshaded reflective spot when we fill in her eyes. Next, we'll add a curving line that divides the eye in two which will help us locate the second, lower reflective spot. And a dash over the inner corner of each eye for her eyebrows. Great, now that we've sorted out the eyes we need to go around the body and add some rough patches and points to suggest fur. The lines don't need to be precise but should be shaggy and pointy. Let's begin with the inside of the ears and once we have that we can do the hair on top of her head between her ears. We'll draw a jagged line on her tail. And lastly, we'll move to her mane and chest puff where we'll add a more shaggy outline to the smooth lines we drew in previous steps. Before moving on, we should smooth out Eevee's legs connecting the double 'u's of her hind leg and adding short lines to the balls of her feet to make them resemble cat's paws.
Step 08: We're almost finished with our construction lines. We just need to add another jagged line inside each ear for her inner ear. Once you've got it in place we can continue to our final lines.
Step 09: Now, we can take our eraser and lighten all of our construction lines until they are barely visible. Then we'll take out our pen or finishing pencil and trace our final lines doing any touch ups along the way. As you trace be sure to notice how her ear on the right overlaps the head and the fourth leg is smaller and partly hidden behind her other legs. These are examples of our size and overlapping 3d principles. Be sure to leave the inside of her ears, tail and eyes empty.
Step 10: Using our pen, we'll fill in the the lower and upper parts of her inner ear and her eyes but leaving the upper circle and the lower crescent moon shape empty as reflection spots. Lastly, trace the jagged line on Eevee's tail as we forgot to do that in the last step.
Step 11: Now, completely erase all of your construction lines and there you have Eevee, that adorable cross between a deer, a fox and a cat. If your goal is to become a great mangaka make sure to draw Eevee again from memory. Then compare the final drawing with the original and correct any mistakes you might have made. Try once again from memory. This is the best way to build a huge library of shapes that you can use in the future for your own manga characters.
